"The Law - Insights"
Article by: Kyle Eatherly - pdf of this article
In this article I will explain what the Lord has taught me and shown me about the law. This topic seems to be one the world always raises an eyebrow at and just moves on. It’s either, "you’re too far into legalism" or, "we’re free from the law now". However, not having the full understanding of the law by the Holy Spirit can be very costly! I myself was one that believed in keeping the commandments of God and walking strictly in them. But I had the wrong understanding of the whole picture.
The Lord has shown me we have to understand why the law was given, and what it does. We have to understand the seed of sin, and how it was delivered, and how it was destroyed through the seed of Christ. We must understand the law is not the problem; it is sin that works through "what is good” that is the problem.
We must understand that God’s spiritual laws give us life. By walking in these laws, these laws will bring us life. We must understand the problem is, "self"; that self is pride; and our pride leads us to do, and believe what we want to believe because of our own wills. But know this; "self" always brings self-destruction! God's people are being destroyed because of the lack of knowledge; therefore, we need to gain knowledge.
The Bible says in the last days that knowledge will increase. This increasing knowledge is about God and His Kingdom, not just technology as a lot of people preach and teach. Only God can give this increase, and how can we receive this knowledge unless we use the measure of faith He has given us to grow in? The Lord is pouring out His Spirit as He said He would. Are we going to follow after it? Or are we going to keep on relying on ourselves and believing what we want to believe? I will begin now to share with you the words the Lord gave me to write this article. They start as follows,
I AM leading you to new tasks now My son. I would have you do another article. What about Lord? My law son. Many still don't grasp the comprehension of why it was given and what it does. I want you to explain what I've taught and shown you about it. I will be with you. Never fret. I will give revelation to you to open even your eyes about it. Everybody only knows in part unless I say otherwise. Get started and I will be with you...
From the Lord's words we see there still needs to be more clarification and understanding on this subject. Even for myself! What a blessing! The Lord is teaching us.
"Sin Through the Seed"
We know that sin has entered into everything. There was nothing left untouched that sin did not enter into. The only result of sin is death itself as it is written, "For the wages of sin is death..." So to understand the totality of how this begins with us individually, having sin through the seed, we need to add some things together.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned...
How have all sinned? We have all sinned because the seed remains in itself! We see here death is "passed" upon to all men. So the fallen state reproduces the state of itself.
Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
If I take an apple seed from inside an apple and plant that same seed again, I'm going to get an apple. This in essence is a representation of the fallen state of man through Adam, whose seed was in him. This produced the chain reaction to all humans being that the fallen state reproduces the state of its own self. We see this even from scripture as well, being the copulation or discharge that goes out from a man is unclean.
'If any man has an emission of semen, then he shall wash all his body in water, and be unclean until evening. 17 And any garment and any leather on which there is semen, it shall be washed with water, and be unclean until evening. 18 Also, when a woman lies with a man, and there is an emission of semen, they shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Here we see this copulation or discharge of any man is unclean. Why? Because sin has entered everything. King David understood this when he wrote here by the Holy Spirit,
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me
Also here we see when Job said,
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!
We are shaped and conceived in this state because it is passed down to all peoples of the earth. This is inevitable and is a fact because all die one way or another. All things have an end. The Lord said,"The wages of sin is death My son. This is inevitable." Creation itself gives witness to this because everything around us has an end as well. The Lord said to me, "...We, mankind have always had a beginning. Everything we have ever known or seen had a beginning and will have, or if already had an end." Jesus said here,
That which is born of the flesh is flesh...
And we know that they which are in the flesh cannot please God (Romans 8:8). Therefore we need the seed of promise to deliver us from the seed of sin and death which is part of us because it is inherently a part of the flesh.
Why Was The Law Given?
Sin had to be labeled to show the world its transgressions and also to reveal God's righteousness. Therefore, God gave man the Law. Without the law, there is no revelation of transgressions.
For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Therefore the law entered in that the offence might abound as we see here in what Paul wrote.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." 8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
Therefore all are born under the law until they have been made free from the curse it brings about.
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
So we see from all this that the law is NOT the problem, but sin that works through what is good, and brings people into bondage and under the curse of it. Jesus freed us from the "curse" that comes through the law, not the law itself! He gave us the Holy Spirit to walk in it and fulfill it, not to get under it. By breaking the law you deal with the ramifications of getting under it. (I'm not under the law until I break the law). The curses that come through the law, the curses that bring death are what Jesus freed us from. Jesus freed us physically and spiritually from the curses that come from breaking the law, but He did not take away the law. As it is written here,
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),
He came that we could have life, and have it more abundantly. What God means for good, Satan twists and misuses to become evil. He was doing this from the very beginning! Jesus came to fulfill the law. Not only the prophecies that were written about Him to legally say "He was who He was". But also by living a sinless life to fulfill the commandments through love, not just out of the letter! The Lord said to me, "My laws are still in effect. They have not changed. People try to adapt their lives around them to fit comfortably for them, instead of conforming to My ways and how I walked showing the example. The law is good and important to heed, but unless you look at it through My eyes of love, it brings no use to your life. I gave those laws out of love. My commandments are love. Sin works through all things to corrupt it, including My laws. But My Spirit brings life. This is the only way My son. The only way..." If we try to keep the law by the letter, we are headed in the wrong direction and this brings no life at all. Why? Because the Spirit only brings life, and by following the Spirit this will lead you to fulfill the righteous requirement of the law! As it is written,
2 Corinthians 3:6
who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
and also here,
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
To give an example of this, I will give a personal testimony in my life where the Lord had dealt with me about this very thing. I was still trying to keep the law by the letter. Although my intentions were good, I was not doing what the Lord said in, "The law is good and important to heed, but unless you look at it through My eyes of love, it brings no use to your life..." Here is the testimony:
It was Saturday, March 9, 2013. It was around 9:00 A.M. and I was praying to the Lord. As I was praying my dad came into my room and said he needed my help in cutting up a tree that had fallen down in my aunt’s yard; she lives directly behind us on our farm. This had happened some time back, but she could get no one over to cut it up for her. Immediately I was thinking, “I can't do this? It’s the Sabbath day.... What am I going to say?" So I went into the living room and told my dad the truth. I said something along the lines of, "Dad, is there anyway we can do this tomorrow? Because it is the Sabbath day and I believe it's a day for rest.” He retorted back with, "No I can’t because it’s suppose to rain and I won't be able to burn the wood up." I went back into my room and was pondering the whole situation when I was led to call my good friends, Bob and his wife Cindy. The Lord has called them to be teachers and ambassadors of rest. Boy, did the Lord use them mightily to give me rest! In the phone call I eventually told them the situation I was in. Then after explaining they said something along the lines of, "Well you know Kyle, the Lord said it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." This is something that had not clicked with me because I was still in a, "following the letter mindset". They had asked me to check to see if my dad was still working outside at this point. I went to check and he was. The Lord had used them to open my eyes to this. So before I went out, I prayed to the Lord, and went to meet my dad. Upon going out there I noticed my dad was really just beginning to get things done. I apologized to him for not going out there in the first place and that I was wrong. I told him the Lord desires "mercy" and not sacrifice. He was putting the diesel fuel on the first brush pile to burn, which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath (meaning kindle a fire), and I was actually thinking this as he was doing that! Still following the letter! But as I stared into that fire I heard the Lord as clear as day say to me, "My grace is sufficient." To get a picture of this in scripture read (Matthew 12:1-8). So with this I helped my dad cut up that tree, burn all the brush, and even cut other wood up for her and stacked them. I even drew a confession from my aunt as well! Towards the end of finishing up the Lord told me to meet with him after I was done. I did, and this is what the Lord said," Pre-cautions are necessary when dealing with the adversary. What say you about this? My Word, My Spirit, My way of doing things. I desire mercy and not sacrifice, therefore be a faithful example of Me in the earth. I love you very much and you are well pleasing in My sight. Continue to show forth My love and let not whispers de-steer you from mercy and truth. You hear My voice well. Continue to do so and learn. Go in grace My son, amen.
(Note: I felt the Lord wanted me to add this here. Why would somebody want to follow or get to know the Lord Jesus Christ if I would have followed through with my intentions I had before? My intent was good to be obedient, but a person who is unlearned in the ways of God would have looked at this situation as not showing love by a supposed Christian who follows a loving God. That's why Paul the Apostle wrote," Let not then your good be evil spoken of ".)
We can see the Lord was well pleased with how everything turned out from His words above. We always need to be led by the Holy Spirit. This brought me closer to being freed from the letter to following after the Spirit. This goes back to what the Lord had said to me about this in, "Sin works through all things to corrupt it, including My laws. But My Spirit brings life. This is the only way My son; the only way. All others that try to follow or interpret without the guiding of My Spirit, live in error. Always remember this." The Lord says no one can follow or interpret anything correctly without the guiding/teaching of the Holy Spirit. One must learn how the Holy Spirit teaches. Why? Because if we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to give the interpretation we will get into our own spirits and self interpretation leads to self destruction. It’s easy to see that’s what I was doing! There is a big difference between following after the Holy Spirit and following after your own spirit!
What The Law Does
First, we need to understand that the law has NOT been done away with. Even Paul the Apostle wrote here in scripture,
Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
Also we see here,
Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
If something is, "good" why would God want to make it void, as so many have been taught in the churches of men? God said in the beginning everything He created was good. But through man's disobedience came the evil thereof. By being obedient to God is what kept life in the beginning. But disobedience brought sin and death through it. Walking in obedience to God's laws now brings you life, physically and spiritually. When I walk in the laws of God through love, I'm fulfilling the law, not getting under it! Getting under the law is what brings the curse of sin which results in death. Jesus came to fulfill the law. He fulfilled the law through love. By living a sinless life He fulfilled the commandments as we see here,
The Lord is well pleased for His righteousness' sake; He will exalt the law and make it honorable.
In obedience to His Father, Jesus exalted the law to fulfill it to its fullest to show how good and beneficial it is to His fellow man. The plan of God for salvation called for Jesus to come and explain the spiritual intent of these laws and commandments, which He spoke about and demonstrated openly. Jesus gave the ultimate example to follow,
1 Peter 2:21
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
The Lord said to me, "Don't error on the side of the world and things you may think to be right. Follow after Me and My righteousness and thou shall never stumble. Keep My ways, My precepts (a principle that guides somebody's actions) and My ordinances (a decree or law) which I have laid out to follow..." My commandments are sure and have been set in order for a reason. So many disregard them and they wonder why they're sick and weak and beggarly. It's because they don't heed Me and My warnings. I love My children, but they refuse to come to Me and surrender fully to Me..."
The Lord gave us these guidelines to follow, not because He just wanted to give us rules to follow, but because He loves us, and "ALL" His commandments were given by love and through love. As the Lord said to me, "I gave those laws out of love. My commandments are love." Just like a parent would give warning to their children not to do something that would cause injury or death. So does God. People wonder why they experience diseases, troubles, griefs and many other negative things in their lives. They experience these things because of their disobedience to God’s laws. Disobedience opens doors to the enemy which brings about curses. These curses can be passed down through generations. (Proverbs 26:1-2) "so the curse causeless shall not come".
The laws of God give us life, and in this is freedom and victory! The Lord said to me, "I will lead you to truth, show you truth, and you will feel the effects of knowing the truth. It has an outcome when you (obtain it). That outcome is freedom and victory." Let's see what Paul wrote about this...
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
We see in the above scripture that we will walk in "righteousness," which is an ACT "in" the Holy Ghost. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is the only one that will lead us into fulfilling the righteous requirement of the law! Jesus did it, the apostles did it, and we are no different, we will do it also. Why? Because God does not change! It said "in" the Holy Ghost, not in our own spirits! And by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in fulfilling the righteous requirement of the law He also brings us peace and joy as well. Let's now make a connection with these three attributes to our schoolmaster. In doing this we will look to Psalms 119, the longest Psalm in the bible. Have you ever wondered why this is the longest Psalm? All it speaks about is the law of God and how righteousness, peace, and joy are what comes from keeping it, and how it is established "forever". I believe the Lord is telling us something on the importance of His laws! So let's make the comparison.
My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.
Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.
I have rejoiced (meaning to give joy, to feel joy, or great delight) in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. 16 I will delight myself (meaning high degree of gratification, joy, extreme satisfaction) in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
And these things have been set forever (meaning His word) and man has no input on it what so ever. As Jesus (God the Son) said Himself,
"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle (meaning tiny bit, or iota) will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
The word, "fulfill" here in the Strong's, 4137, can mean "fully preach," which Jesus did in His ministry while on earth. He also went on to say, "Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." The word, "fulfilled" here in the Strong's can mean, "be brought to pass, come to pass, be ended, etc." Heaven and earth have not passed away yet for the new heaven and earth to brought about because we’re still living in it.
Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.
and also here,
Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.
Jesus did NOT destroy or do away with what God called holy and good. But sin that worked through what was good He condemned, that we might be free from sin for those who believe and confess Him as Lord and walk in His example.
