The Bible talks about "my house," or "a house" many times. It presents another picture that we can understand of God's Kingdom, God's Church. The Lord sometimes calls His Church a house.
2 Timothy 2:19-21
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
Here we see that every one that nameth the name of Christ is in a great house. Naming the name is your declaration of faith (establishment) to another person that Jesus is who He is. Paul also says that anyone doing this is to depart from lawlessness, but He goes on to say there are those who won't do this. Therefore, there are those in the Lord's House (Church, Kingdom) who do not honor Him but nevertheless they are still saved (still in the Lord's house). So in this great house there are some who honour, and some who dishonour.
This same picture is presented in a Kingdom setting. Jesus said,
Matthew 5:17-19
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
We see the same picture of people who don't obey God's laws still being in the Kingdom of God just like the picture that the Lord's house presented. Here we also see that even those who teach wrong things are still there, but called the Least in the Kingdom (House, Church). The reason for this is because Jesus' blood covered our sin on both sides of our moment of salvation. You can lose your salvation by denying Jesus, but to sin is not to deny Him. Sin is the lack of control over your flesh, and the lack of knowledge. I have departed a little from the subject, but this needed to be said here. I have presented this so we can see that God paints many pictures of things in the Bible so we can get a better understanding of what He's saying.
It is important to have your house in order.
2 Kings 20:1
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
I believe the picture presented by Christ is probably the most important to understand. Jesus' covenant promises are sayings (and heareth my sayings, and doeth them). We must enact our part of those promises to be in covenant with Him. Something out of the Lord's mouth must be at the foundation of our teachings and acts, as a person and as a church. Here He refers to you as a person building a house, but this also can translate into building a kingdom or a church.
Luke 6:47-49
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
You build your spiritual house on what you have ingested, or picked out of the sky to believe as the truth, right or wrong. If you are having dreams and visions concerning your house, God is dealing with you either about what you believe, or what you are doing. We are living in the last days and He said He would give dreams and visions to all flesh during this time. He will continue to do it whether people understand or not, because He said He would. He wants your house (beliefs) in order when He comes or when you meet Him after death. God always has a purpose in everything He does.
When the Lord started to show me that I needed to change my belief on tithing, He gave me a dream. In this dream I was to change the print on the wallpaper I had in the living room of my house. I was to get the new print from Texas. Later a friend of mine went to a place in Texas where they study and translate Hebrew. She came back with the information about how the early church handled the tithe. This changed the print on the wallpaper of my living room. I not only believe differently, but I live what I believe. I act out what God taught me from Texas. That's why it was the paper in my living room.
Another time the Lord dealt with me through a dream about my house. My wife and the same friend had told me that I needed to go to Tulsa. I felt that I needed to go but I wanted to know why before I left. It seemed stupid to me to drive that far not knowing what we were to do. The Lord gave me a dream of my house. There was an old man living there and I couldn't move in until the old man moved out! I knew what the dream meant. I was not walking in faith. I was walking as I had always walked, in the flesh. I knew faith had to do with things unseen. We went to Tulsa and, without giving details, I can tell you I was supposed to go!
Another time God showed me the house of a different person. She wouldn't let anyone into their main closet, the one where everyone hung their coats when they came in from outside. She kept it under lock and key. God was saying she won't let Him deal with what that family has hidden. This doesn't allow healing of the past, or correction in their lives.
One time the Lord showed me a church as a house. It was a Word Church in a particular town. It had no foundation. The same symbolic meanings apply, whether it's a personal house, a church house, or a kingdom (nation) house.
If God shows you your house and there is no foundation, or there is a problem with that foundation, then you should realize that you are missing something and have "wrong thinking, wrong beliefs" about something foundational in God's word. Wrong thinking produces wrong actions. It is very serious. Wrong actions will let your house fall and be destroyed, if not changed. Wrong thinking, wrong beliefs, traditions of men, and false doctrines "that are foundational" always let a house fall in time. It will show up in Heaven, if not here on earth.
In contrast, the things God reveals that have to do with rooms and decor are quite honestly not as serious as foundational problems but still should be corrected. God is on your side and knows what you or a church needs. He is coming to a spotless church, a house that's in order!
I have shared this so you can gain understanding about the Holy Spirit dealing with an individual "as a house" or the church "as a house."
It's a very serious thing!
